Start Well Services
Community Midwifery (Neonatal Care) staff usually work in teams of 4-8 providing care from your first appointment in pregnancy to around 14 days after the birth. After this the Community Midwife will hand over to your Health Visitor.
You will be given a contact number for a named Midwife who will co-ordinate your care, BHT Neonatal Care services can be contacted on 01296 316113
Health Visitor Services: every family with a child under five will have a named Health Visitor allocated to their care. They are senior grade nurses with specialist knowledge of community health, child health and health promotion and education. They will help you with any concerns you may have about your baby and will usually visit you at home and check your baby’s health and weight. They will also care for mother and family physical and mental health.

Child Health Clinics and Developmental Checks
Checks are provided at the hospital site and/or at home. Your health visitor will weigh your baby at the new birth visit, 6–8-week visit, 1 year and 2-year development checks.
If between these times you are concerned about your baby’s weight gain, growth or other issues you can call 01753 888835 to request a clinic appointment.
School Nursing: a multi-skilled staff team specialising in child health and wellbeing includes specialist community public health nurses, community nurses, child health and wellbeing advisors, and school health assistants. The team supports children and young people in schools, with medical, social, emotional or physical needs. They work with schools, communities and families to ensure every child can reach their potential in life. When needed they also offer one to one appointment for parents and children.

School Age Immunisation: the School Immunisation programme provides vaccinations against: Flu, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Meningococcal ACWY (Men ACWY), Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio (Td/IPV), Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR), COVID-19.

A Start Well Hub will bring these services together, providing support and advice for parents and children with physical, mental or social concerns. Further details will be provided when available.
